Check out the Farm Planning Extension Portal to get started with some great resources.
We will also be compiling some Lee County-specific resources designed for the “Ag Curious” as well as new and beginning farmers to learn the technical ropes behind producing local food. These resources will include educational programs and experiences (classes, workshops, etc.) as well as publications, videos, and more that will help you get your farm started on the right foot. Check back regularly for updates as we start to populate this page.

Apply for the South Central
Small Farm Boot Camp Class of 2024 Here!
In the Fall of 2024, we will be partnering with our regional partners again to support our regional Small Farm Boot Camp program! Developed by the Extension Local Food Program, Small Farm Boot Camp is designed for those interested in exploring farming as well as market gardeners, homesteaders, and new and beginning farmers to help provide the technical knowledge and skills to get started with farming.
This program includes ten modules, with topics including understanding your local food system and selecting marketing channels, learning the essentials behind soil health, learning how to grow different vegetables, tree fruits, and small fruits, season extension, post-harvest handling and food safety, and putting it all together. This program is a multi-county collaboration between Lee, Chatham, Moore, Harnett, Richmond, and Johnston counties.
