N.C. Cooperative Extension, Wake County Center has contracted $50,000 with Black Farmers Hub to begin hosting SOUL CITY FRESH - neighborhood farmers markets every Saturday beginning 7/6 through the Fall of 2025, alternating between two different locations, one in Cary and one in Southeast Raleigh. The funds are for vouchers which Wake County Center created for local Family Child Care Homes partnering with Wake County Smart Start, as well as two Childcare Centers; each partner receives $200 per month to spend at these neighborhood markets, to subsidize the cost of increasing the use of fresh local fruits and vegetables in Child Care programming. We are also partnering with Telamon Head Start to increase the sourcing of fresh local produce in their programs across Wake County beginning this Fall!
