Hunger Awareness Month Partnership with Wake County Public Libraries

Wake County Cooperative Extension is partnering with libraries across the county to bring hunger awareness into the spotlight this June. Through educational programming, donation drives, and community events, families will learn more about food insecurity and how to take action. Participating libraries are also collecting non-perishable food items for local food pantries throughout the month.

LOL Club Hosts Heart and Hands Community Picnic

As part of this month-long effort, the 4-H Liberation Out Loud (LOL) Club is leading the charge with their Heart and Hands Community Picnic on Thursday, June 12 at 6 PM at Green Road Community Library. Teens have planned every part of the evening—from the interactive “Wish Wall” to welcoming remarks from the Women’s Center—to raise awareness about hunger and homelessness in Wake County.

Attendees can enjoy a light meal, hands-on activities, and the chance to support neighbors in need by donating canned meals or new adult-sized underwear (donation optional). Join us for a relaxed, family-friendly evening powered by youth leadership and community care.
