Event Details:
- Date: Saturday, October 5th
- Time: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. EDT
- Location: Lake Crabtree Park, Wake County, NC 27560, start at the Dogwood Shelter
What to Expect:
- Scenic Walk: Take in the beauty of Lake Crabtree Park as you enjoy a brief picturesque walk. Meet at the Dogwood Shelter to begin
- Mental Health Displays: Discover informative exhibits presented by Wake County 4-H Teen Council members. These displays will focus on key issues related to youth mental health, offering valuable insights and resources.
- Community Support: Participate in activities and conversations aimed at breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. This is more than just a walk—it’s a step toward creating a more supportive environment for everyone in our community.
Why This Walk Matters: The ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have brought mental health challenges to the forefront, particularly among youth. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), suicide is now the second leading cause of death among individuals aged 15-24 in the U.S. Additionally, 64% of teens believe the world is more stressful now than it was for their parents’ generation, and 1 in 4 teens has been diagnosed with a mental health condition. By joining this walk, you contribute to raising awareness and supporting crucial mental health initiatives that can make a difference.
About NAMI Wake County: NAMI Wake County is dedicated to providing support, education, and advocacy for individuals, families, and communities dealing with mental health issues. The organization has been a vital resource, especially for young people, helping to end the stigma surrounding mental health through education and outreach. The funds raised from this event will directly benefit NAMI Wake County’s ongoing efforts.
Be Part of the Change: Your participation in this walk helps foster a more open dialogue about mental health and supports initiatives that can save lives. Whether you’ve walked with us before or are joining for the first time, your presence makes a difference.
