Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10-14 and the 3rd leading cause of death among those aged 15-24 in the US according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
NAMI Wake County provides support, education, and advocacy to all individuals, families, and communities facing mental health challenges. Over the past few years, Wake County’s youth population has shown interest in ending the stigma of mental health by joining conversations with Health and Human Services, creating resources on the impact of COVID-19, hosting an annual Walk for Mental Health fundraiser, and much more!
Wake County 4-H Teen Council members encourage all residents of Wake County to come out and walk with us, learn about youth concerns, and leave with resources to strengthen mental health access.
We will meet outside of the Wake County office buildings in the round-a-bout for a brief message from our 4-H Teen Council and NAMI Wake representatives. Participants follow the trails behind the office buildings to Historic Oak View Park where Teen Council members set up displays focusing on mental health concerns among youth populations.
