Why It Matters

Did you know that over 10% of Wake County residents are food insecure? Food security means having reliable access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food. With 12% of local children facing food insecurity, your involvement is crucial to making a difference.

Wake County has secured $7.2 million to combat hunger and is transitioning to a more resilient food security model. Find out more in the 2023 Food Plan Update.

Highlights from Last Year

In 2023, the summit hosted 50 youth participants and 35 adult volunteers who engaged in meaningful activities and projects, including painting and assembling mini-pantries that are now serving local communities in need. This year, we aim to build on this success!

Hunger Action Month:

This Youth Summit is a key event in our Hunger Action Month campaign. Hunger Action Month is an annual September initiative established by Feeding America to raise awareness about hunger and encourage action to address food insecurity. This year, Wake Cooperative Extension has partnered with county libraries to integrate hunger-related themes into storytime events and provide families with resources to discuss hunger with their children. Participating libraries will also collect food and supplies for those in need. LEARN MORE ABOUT HUNGER ACTION MONTH EVENTS
